What To Expect During Your Visit

Morning work cycle

Each morning begins with a community meeting and then class time where the teachers will introduce learning materials that are tailored for students' individual developmental needs. Every classroom is led by a Montessori-trained teacher for the age groups/program levels distinct materials that are designed for the children in their classroom. Our classrooms are fully outfitted with Montessori materials that are hands-on and isolate a specific concept, whether it be a math operation, practicing spelling words, or pouring from one pitcher to another.

Making choices

By this time in the school year, the students have learned the routine of the day, and have become active members in their academic journey. They understand the beginning, middle, and end of a specific material, completing it and returning it to the shelves for the next person to use. They have become purposeful in their daily routine and feel inner success by mastering a material in the curriculum and being able to progress to a new and more advanced material in the curriculum sequence. Our students develop an inner guidance system of concentration, independence, order and responsibility for their education that is a preparation for life.

How teachers give lessons

Montessori teachers are highly trained to observe each child and to present lessons to children based on their readiness and ability to succeed. Each classroom has a full Montessori curriculum available. New lessons are given individually to one child, or to a small group. Once a lesson is given to a child, then they are free to work on that material as many times as needed until they have mastered it. This may take 2 days or 3 months of daily repetition until they have mastered a material or concept. Without the pressure of a traditional school environment to achieve instantly, the student has the time to truly understand and gain mastery. Teachers are always observing and are there to answer questions or to reintroduce if needed. Our classrooms are all based on a deep respect for the child and understanding the developmental and psycho/social periods of each age group.
